Claudio Abbado enjoys working with young musicians, as evidenced by his involvement with leading youth orchestras such as the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra from Venezuela. In this edition we hear Abbado as leader of an orchestra that owes its existence to the preparations of the Mozart year 2006. This Orchestra Mozart, thus named, is also linked to a training
… in which Mozart himself took part: the then by Padre Martini founded Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna. The handwriting of Mozart's entrance exam is still in the proud possession of this institute. The double CD offers a beautiful anthology of Mozart's symphonies, from the precocious Symphony No. 29, through the imposing Prague Symphony, culminating in the superlative Jupiter Symphony. With this release, Symphonies 33 and 38 ('Prague Symphony') can be added to Abbado's discography for the first time. (HJ)more
