The composer and harpsichordist Froberger was well-traveled. His music sometimes reported it: melancholic showers in London, dangerous moments on the Rhine. This is not an issue here. With this CD it is mainly the instrument that has traveled. Harpsichordist Terence Charlston regretted that Froberger's Fantasies and Canzonas had never been recorded on clavichord. In 2018 he discovered what he thinks
… is the ideal instrument for this. This concerned a contemporary reconstruction (2009) of a South German clavichord. Terence Charlston received permission from the builders to borrow the instrument for a year. And so this integral registration of Froberger's Fantasies and Canzonas was created in London, first recorded by means of a clavichord. (HJ)more
