We are used to hearing Mozart's Requiem always in a completion by someone else. And so there are more shards of Mozart's workshop, sometimes completed by others. Timothy Jones has made this his speciality. He has not taken any risks in doing so. He often makes several versions to find out what the possibilities are. This CD by baroque violinist Rachel Podger revolves around four such completions
… for violin and piano: three sonata allegro's and a fantasia. We always hear two versions of the three sonata allegros. Jones did this excellently. When listening blindly, nobody will guess that not all the notes are by Mozart. The result is a tight programme, with Jones' completion of the Fantasy in C minor neatly in the middle. (HJ)more
