This CD is the Chandos debut of Polish guitarist Krzysztof Meisinger. The programme is a mixture of Spanish, Italian and Argentine. Starting with JoaquĆn Rodrigo, the composer of the famous Concierto de Aranjuez. The rest of his extensive oeuvre, however, will not be very well known. One of them is the introverted, exuberant InvocaciĆ³n y Danza, which pays homage to Manuel de Falla. Rodrigo's Elogio
… de la Guitarra is more lively, although we hear that typical Spanish distance here too. Then Llobet's fine variations on a theme by Sor. In fact this theme goes back to the traditional 'la folia', which inspired composers from Lully to Rachmaninov. Finally Piazzolla, whose music has always been played in arrangements by guitarists. In fact, only the Cinco piezas from 1981 were originally written for the guitar. It is no surprise that the third movement, Acentuado, contains tango rhythms. (HJ)more
