Javier Guzman won both the jury and the audience award of the Leids Cabaret Festival in 2002. That same year he was already allowed to make a Sinterklaas conference for the VARA. This went so well that Guzman also gave a Sinterklaas conference in 2003 and 2004. The DVD Guzman Deelt Uit III contains the 2004 Sinterklaas conference, a twenty-five minute interview with Guzman, promos and a Making Of.
For the third conference, Guzman chose a factory as the original location. Guzman explains in the interview that he does not so much comment on the news of the year as he wants to portray an era. He is shocked by the realization that the integration process appears to be far from over, with the murder of Theo van Gogh as the low point. And he is shocked by the way people treat each other. Although he likes to scoff at Jan-Peter Balkenende in the conference, he actually agrees: standards and values are crucial. Guzman mentions, among other things, the increasingly stupid consumer-oriented society, Bush, JP, Israel and the fight against terrorism. (SvdP)more
