In the 2000-2001 season, Hans Teeuwen, Gummbah and Pieter Bouwman played the theater performance Poelmo: Slaaf Van Het Zuiden in the Amsterdam Betty Asfalt Complex. Comedian Teeuwen is notorious for his absurd humor and strange facial expressions. Bouwman is an experienced cabaret director and one of the makers of the weekly radio soap Radio Bergeijk. Gummbah is a cartoonist, absurdist and painter.
Three strange men, that must lead to something special. The images now released on DVD show the result: sarcastic, ironic and bizarre conversations, songs and actions on a stage without any frills. In 2002 the VPRO edited the theater performances into an eight-part television series including (so-called) dressing room fragments in which the men make each other's lives miserable behind the scenes. These dressing room scenes have been added to this DVD as extras. In the extra Motivation, the artists separately explain their 'motives' for making Poelmo. A nice memory for fans of absurd humor.
