Cabaret performer Jeroen van Merwijk was fed up with the good Dutch song on television being relegated to a zap moment: at the end of the programs De Wereld Draait Door, Pauw & Witteman and Paul De Leeuw, grand artists are allowed to come and do a song, that's all. As a result, the general public does not know that the Netherlands is bursting with good grand artists with beautiful songs. On the
… initiative of Van Merwijk, the VARA decided to organize and broadcast a unique performance in the Kleine Komedie. The joint performance of the four grand artists Jeroen van Merwijk, Kees Torn, Theo Nijland and Maarten van Roozendaal is recorded on this DVD. It is nice to see how different the four men are in personality and style and how they make contact with the public. Torn is a 'drs. P. with feeling ', Van Merwijk also keeps it small and simple, while Nijland and Van Roozendaal look more for the theatrical and passionate side of cabaret. Accompanying each other's songs on piano and guitar and with the excellent complement of Egon Kracht (double bass) and Marcel de Groot (guitar), the comedians present a special performance. (SvdP)more
