Singer / songwriter Stef Bos is referred to in a documentary on this DVD as a 'searching traveler' or 'traveling seeker'. Characteristic of Bos is that he does indeed continuously broaden his horizon by eager to meet new people and cultures. His acquaintance with the land and people of South Africa, however, is not transitory; he has closed them in his heart forever. And on this DVD made for the
… South African market, his love appears to be reciprocated by the South Africans as well. Bos' songs written in 'Lower African' are full of loving wonder, social involvement and tolerance and thus have a healing effect on the population with such a turbulent history. Bos' Awuwa worked as an 'eye opener'; it was the very first song in which Dutch, Afrikaans and Xhosa sounded pleasantly side by side, performed by white, brown and black South African artists. The DVD Rooi Earth Swart Blood contains a 2007 concert in Pretoria, but the accompanying interview, documentary and video clips are also very worthwhile. Perhaps a tricky point: Afrikaans is not subtitled. (SvdP)more
