The Amusement Klassieken series of the Theater Instituut Nederland included a CD with 26 songs by the legendary Dutch singer Bob Scholte, which he recorded between 1928 and 1940. Among them are well-known songs such as Jiddische Memme, Sarie Marijs and Amsterdam. The songs about important events at the time, such as Dat Gaat Nu Met De Pelikaan (about the mail that was first transported by plane to
… the Dutch East Indies) and Juliana Is De Bride (about the wedding of Princess Juliana to Prince Bernhard) are nice. It is moving Do U Een Sigarenbandje sung by Scholte's son Ab and daughter Greetje, who both died in a concentration camp during the war. (CK)more
