In 2007 racial caretaker and theater maker Freek de Jonge performed in Dutch theaters with the song program De Toehoorder. Instead of conferences, a lot of music was made, with singer De Jonge being surrounded by an excellent band consisting of the violinists Hella de Jonge and Emmy Verhey, keyboardist Robert Jan Stips, guitarist Cok van Vuuren, double bassist Bart Wijtman and drummer Leon Klaasse.
This double CD contains live recordings of the program: twenty songs and two conferences (Bermmonument and Meppelerbroek). With both old hits and new lyrics by Freek de Jonge set to music by Bram Vermeulen, Robert-Jan Stips, Henk Hofstede, Boudewijn de Groot and Daniƫl Lohues, among others. With a raw voice full of passion, persuasiveness and (black) humor storyteller De Jonge sings about human relationships and emotions and socially critical topics. (SvdP)more
