Dutch popular music, from the early 60's on, would certainly have looked different without singer Rob de Nijs. As an interpreter of a broad sentiment - from Rhythm Van De Regen to Malle Babbe and Put A Candle Before Your Window - he always managed to strike a sensitive chord with a wide audience. He always seemed to stay young, became a tough motorcyclist at a later age and on recent albums worked
… with younger songwriters like Spinvis and DaniĆ«l Lohues. But appearances can be deceiving, De Nijs has been suffering from Parkinson's disease for some time now and it has been nice for the singer who has already passed the age of 70. With this album he says goodbye to the existence of an artist. He does so with dignity, with another collection of songs full of matured sentiment and symbolic farewell, poetically expressed by his regular lyricist and ex-wife Belinda Meuldijk. With also for the last time his Pur Sang Band behind him and grand orchestral arrangements, De Nijs says goodbye in a powerful way and without asking for compassion. In a beautifully bound book his relatives and colleagues tell about their relationship with this icon. (MR)more
