The album Harem by singer Sarah Brightman was born from the idea that she wanted to release an album with a Middle Eastern 'feel'. With producer Frank Peterson she collected and created a repertoire of familiar, existing and unusual, new music. Ex-Killing Joke keyboardist Jaz Coleman provided the instrumental East-meets-West sound. The Harem album included: violinist Nigel Kennedy, singer Kadim Al
… Sahir and singers Natacha Atlas and Shweta Shetty. Despite the oriental theme, it has not become a crossover with world music. The music on Harem is solidly grounded in ambient-like pop and dance. With her ethereal crystal clear soprano voice, Brightman sings arrangements of Dulce Pontes' Cançao Do Mar (on title track Harem) and What A Wonderful World. Titles like Mysterious Day, Arabian Nights and Stranger In Paradise give a good impression of the exotic and sensual content of the music in this album. (SvdP)more
