For several decades now, the Brodsky Quartet has occupied an important place in the international chamber music world with concerts and recordings of the traditional string quartet repertoire (from Mozart and Beethoven to Shostakovich and Respighi). But the Brodsky Quartet is also aware that it has to keep up with the times. They commission modern composers and explore the boundaries between classical
… and pop by collaborating with musicians such as Elvis Costello and Björk. The quartet has started its own label, Brodsky Records, under which the album Moodswings was released. The CD contains songs for voice and string quartet from well-known singer / songwriters such as Sting, Elvis Costello and Björk. In addition, you can hear compositions by a number of very talented high school students, the result of an educational project in which the Brodsky Quartet participated. Moodswings is a great title, because the songs on the album sound like tone paintings, each with their own atmosphere. They are all interesting and it will depend on the personal background of the listeners which songs they find more or less successful. (CP)more
