From the 1990s, Madredeus has grown into one of Portugal's most successful musical exports. The sophisticated mix of musical 'saudade' and modern arrangements was internationally successful. The soul of fado resides in Madredeus, but the group does not sing as heartbreaking as the famous fadistas. Mariana Abrunhero rather has a thin voice with which she often sings wordless vocal lines. She floats
… with her voice between the instruments that give this album its color: violin, harp and acoustic guitar. For the occasion, Madredeus has been expanded with the five extra musicians from A Banda Cósmica. Fortunately, the stage of the Teatro Ibérico in their home port Lisbon is nice and spacious and the band members are not in each other's way musically. This DVD offers an excellent recording in an atmospheric room that suits Madredreus like a warm coat. (PdK)more
