During the production of the album Putumayo Presents Mali To Memphis, the musicians Habib Koité and Eric Bibb met. Both are singer-songwriter and guitarist, one born and raised in Mali, the other in the United States. From that meeting grew a friendship and the desire to one day record a 'transatlantic blues' album together. That promise has been fulfilled with the album Brothers In Bamako. The
… African American Bibb came to Bamako for this project and immediately felt at home with Koité and his family. In terms of style, Koité and Bibb go well together; they quietly interpret introverted folk and blues music with African influences. Both play guitars, banjos and ukuleles in a refined way, accompanied by percussionist Mamadou Kone. Both individually and together they create songs in their own language about their experiences and often with a social message. Bibb sings an intimate version of 's Blowing in the wind. Brothers In Bamako does not contain any real outliers, but exudes the pleasant atmosphere that reigns when two good friends enjoy intimate interaction. (SvdP)more
