The musicians on this album are bridge builders: they connect cultures and (neighboring) countries - such as Greece and Turkey - that are normally at odds with each other. Turkish saz player literally took the first step by moving to Athens in 2009. The lute player trained in all kinds of styles, from classical to rock, avant-garde and traditional folk music. In addition to Türkoglu, musicians
… from different cultures worked on this album: the German cellist , Armenian citron player Meri Vardanyan, Greek ney player Christos Barbas and Turkish percussionist . The legendary Greek singer Maria Farantouri is the greatest asset on this album. Maybe it takes some getting used to her deep voice where the age - 69 during the recording - has left its mark audibly. In contrast, she impresses with her subtle and restrained vocals. Traditional music from Greece, Turkey, Lebanon and Armenia are complemented by compositions by Cihan Türkoglu. The atmospheric music is unhurried, meditative and peaceful. Unifying music can be that beautiful! (SvdP)more
