The biopic genre has been a staple of the silver screen in recent years. Decisive for the success of such a film is the ability of the actor to portray a credible version of the main character. In case the person portrayed is a singer, by now it is expected that the movie star on duty is also convincing in terms of voice(arts). In the case of
Maria Callas - about whom a film also appeared in 2025,
… in which she was played and imitated by Angelina Jolie - it is mainly about those arts. With Bob Dylan, the voice itself is at least as important as the arts performed with it. For the film A Complete Unknown, it was actor Timothée Chalamet's honor to step into the shoes of Bob Dylan. Chalamet makes an absolutely creditable appearance. Although the award for best Bob Dylan impersonation still goes to Adrian Belew (as heard in Zappa's song Flakes), that of the young French-American actor is also very pleasant to listen to. Also worth mentioning is the pleasant rendition of Joan Baez by Monica Barbaro, also heard on the soundtrack of A Complete Unknown. (JV)more
