Blues rocker Walter Trout emerged in the same period (late eighties) as guitar virtuosos Jeff Healy and Stevie Ray Vaughan, with whom he is often compared. On Relentless, too, the emphasis is on the fat shuffles in the well-known twelve bars, while he manages to strike an emotional chord, especially in the soul ballad Jericho Road. To emphasize his indestructible reputation as a live musician, the album was recorded live, in the Amsterdam pop venue Paradiso.
