Coming from the 'deep south' of ... London, singer and slide guitarist and singer Ian Siegal seems to sense like no other how American-trained blues rock should sound like today. His music always sounds raw, elementary and also a bit boastful, without getting lost in guitar antics or other ego-tripping. … flourished in London during the 1960s. On Broadside he now sounds more American than ever by adding a lot of soul to his music. With that, he also appears more polished than ever. However, it never gets smooth in ten hot soul tampers, with here and there a lived ballad on which he especially prizes the forgotten white, Detroit soul singer Mitch Ryder. But even in Detroit it no longer steams like on Broadside. (MR)more
