Joe Bonamassa apparently doesn't like to sit still. The blues guitarist makes albums continuously, performs frequently on stage and regularly releases DVDs of those concerts. Less than two months after the release of the DVD Live In New York, Bonamassa comes out with the album Driving Towards The Daylight. With this album he builds on the predecessor Dust Bowl (2011). Just like with that record,
… Driving Towards The Daylight consists half of old hits and the other half of self-written songs. The strong title opener Dislocated Boy comes from its own hands and makes the question travel whether the American really needs the old songs. But the covers are again of such quality that it is a good thing that they have not been withheld from us. Stones In My Passway is performed with even more blues than Robert Johnson did at the time and also Who's Been Talking? originally written by Howlin 'Wolf is performed in a formidable way. Bonamassa lets his guitar cry for a modest hour and the eardrums enjoy. (BvdV)more
