In addition to being the musical accompanist (and piss) of joker Paul De Leeuw, Cor Bakker is a gifted pianist. That can finally be heard on the album Cor Goes Gipsy. Flawlessly and extremely smoothly, he plays jazz themes such as Lennie's Pennie's by Lennie Tristano, Chick Corea's Spain and Davida Bela by the composer / arranger Clare Fischer so admired by him. The improvisations also testify to
… solid musicality and craftsmanship. Cor Goes Gipsy, as the name suggests, is all about gipsy jazz through a meeting with the Rosenberg Trio. Bakker's playing ties in seamlessly with that of the Rosenbergs and together they produce nice swinging music. As soloists, Cor and Stochelo are well-matched, and they both also use the electric version of their instrument for a change. Ellen Helmus (flute) and Christiaan Van Hemert (bandoneon and violin) can be heard as additional soloists. Cor Goes Gipsy is not only available on CD; this combination can also be heard in theaters in the 2008-2009 season. That undoubtedly means a pleasant evening of high-quality musical entertainment.
