An American Diary: The Dreamings by vibraphonist Mike Manieri has become an idiosyncratic jazz CD, which stems from the musical / cultural wanderings Mike Manieri has made and from the cross-fertilization that has arisen in the history of contemporary music / culture. The starting point is jazz, from which Manieri departs as his form of cultural adventure. In the music on this album many influences
… from the traditional music of countries can be heard and many folk influences are noticeable. This album is a sequel to the first part of An American Diary, which focuses on the work of modern American composers such as Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber and Leonard Bernstein. The basis of Manieri's formation are saxophonist George Garzone, bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Peter Erskine. This formation opens the CD with "R" Is For Riddle, one of Manieri's many compositions for this album. Exceptional guests on this album include Simon Seven (didgeridoo) on The Dreamings, Noa (vocals) and Gil Dor (guitar) on the 'traditional' Schecharchoret, Arto Tuncboyan (vocals / sazabo / percussion) on Dear, My Friend (The Gift) and David Tronzo (slide guitar) on Peyote Prayer. This CD certainly deserves all the attention of interested music lovers! (JW) This CD certainly deserves all the attention of interested music lovers!
