The Heart Of Things is a strong new album from guitarist John McLaughlin. It contains six of its own compositions: Acid Jazz, Seven Sisters, Mr. DC, Fallen Angels (a nice and quiet song), Healing Hands and When Love Is Far Away. Contemporary jazz, which is nevertheless easy to follow. McLaughlin was accompanied by saxophonist / flutist Gary Thomas, keyboardist Jim Beard, bassist Matthew Garrison
… and drummer Dennis Chambers. Guests are percussionist Victor Williams and bassist (acoustic) Jean-Paul Celea. The CD starts with the electric Acid Jazz and ends with McLaughlin's modestly played solo on acoustic guitar When Love Is Far Away. Beautiful improvisations and beautiful ensemble playing! (JW)more
