Pianist David Benoit is one of the most popular performers of contemporary or smooth jazz. He usually makes slightly melodic background music, or as a critic once called it: 'new age with a beat'. But he has also done some good jazz projects, such as a tribute to Bill Evans and a collaboration with Emily Remler. Fuzzy Logic is one of his best albums. This time he uses more than two dozen musicians.
For example trumpet player Rick Braunaat who is also one of the producers (together with Benoit himself and acid jazzman Stuart Wade). The title track immediately makes it clear that Benoit has found a very good groove, with his horn section, his funky strut and his R&B influences. The CD has no weak spots, everything sounds spontaneous, dynamic and swinging. (RM)more
