This is the first time that Han Reiziger has made a recording of his own music. It was the musicians who decided that Han Reiziger's compositions should be recorded. They had heard the small beauty of his work when on Sunday morning 27 May 2001 he played two pieces in the last episode of the VPRO television program Reiziger in Muziek. … as a cabaret accompanist pianist. 'Nice songs', as he describes his music, for Jasperina de Jong, Hedy D'Ancona, Marijke Morley and Ellen Cramer. After three months of hard work on the piano, Han Reiziger enters the studio where the musicians Jeroen de Rijk, percussion, Frits Landesbergen, vibraphone, Leonardo Amuendo, guitar and Edwin Corzilius, bass, are ready to 'do Han'. The music swings, acquires a Latin American timbre and is enriched with virtuoso whirling improvisations and melancholic melody lines. The music sounds - how could it be otherwise - sympathetic. The man who meant so much to music could not have wished for a better farewell. (RM)more
