Norwegian trumpet player Nils Petter Molvaer can count himself as one of the most brilliant innovators, when it comes to fusing jazz with dance techniques. It is not without reason that his debut Khmer was voted best jazz album in the United States in 1998. On Recoloured, a collection of remixes of previously released work, he collaborated with renowned dance producers such as Herbert, Cinematic
… Orchestra, TeeBee (who can also be heard on NP3), Funkstörung and Bill Laswell. He incorporated the influences gained in this process - especially those of Laswell - in NP3. The CD booklet is enriched with images of human figures standing in vast expanses of water. Seldom has images been sought so well with sound, because NP3 can be heard as a sailing trip, sometimes slowly rippling along, the other time fighting against rough, fierce waves. Molva's trumpet sound moves between the thin sounds of John Hassell, the hard, aggressive sound of Toshinori Kondo and of course the indelible influence of Miles Davis. (AD)more
