Much has been said and written about alto saxophonist Piet Noordijk since he started his career in Rotterdam some 60 years ago. Rightly so! Because Piet is a typical no-nonsense Rotterdammer who plays his 'straight jazz' straight from the heart. He always manages to amaze his many fans and colleagues with his Parker-like dexterity in the up-tempo songs and his relentless sotto-voce playing in beautiful ballads such as in Nancy (With the Laughing Face) or In The Wee Small. Although Piet paraphrases Strangers in the Night at the end of You Make Me Feel So Young, the five musicians were certainly no strangers to the repertoire when they recorded the songs in the studio.
