Bassist Tony Overwater, drummer Joost Lijbaart and tenor saxophonist Yuri Honing, together the Yuri Honing Trio, have traveled almost all over the world. In every country they soaked up the musical heritage like a sponge and thus expanded their repertoire. Hard bop, pop, country, classical music from the Middle East, reggae, you name it and it could be found in their sets. They were most successful
… with their jazz interpretations of pop songs. For the recording of Alive, the trio again went on a voyage of discovery, this time in their own capacity. Alive features two compositions by Honing, of which Myst sounds as adventurous as the computer game of the same name, one by Overwater, a Brazilian piece by Chico Buarquel and Francis Hime. The big surprise, however, is the adaptation of the Björk song Isobel, in which their wanderlust, love for music and research urge come together. (AD)more
