Following on from I'm All For You, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and pianist Hank Jones meet again at Joyous Encounter, where they plunge into a repertoire consisting largely of ballads under the trusted accompaniment of bassist George Mraz and drummer Paul Motian. … is why songs like Bird's Eye View by Lovano's own hand and Six And Four by Oliver Nelson offer a welcome change to the repertoire worn. Lovano must have liked the collaboration on I'm All For You, because it is the first time that he is pursuing a project. And rightly so, because the playing of this quartet provides many magical moments. And this time too, the CD was recorded using two microphones and an equal number of analog tracks, to guarantee the unique atmosphere. (AD)more
