After ten years, guitarist John Scofield rejoins the ranks of Medeski, Martin & Wood after inviting them to accompany him on A Go Go in 1997. The as always very alienating playing of Medeski on his painstakingly hiccupping organ - one time reminiscent of a soundtrack from a sixties science fiction film and another time of an accordionist on the Seine - once again provides the right breeding
… ground for Scofield, who one moment plays rare subdued and then full throttle. This time the repertoire alternates between New Orleans funk (Little Walter Rides Again, Tootie Ma Is A Big Fine Thing), bossa nova (Tequila And Chocolate), reggae (Legalize It by Peter Tosh) and electric Miles Davis fusion, but without a trumpet. (Miles Behind). Enough variety on Out Louder that makes you eagerly await the next collaboration of the gentlemen. This version of Out Louder has a second CD with six live songs. (AD)more
