After First Avenue (2003) and For The Rhythm (2005), A Journey That Matters is the third CD by Dutch rising saxophone star Tineke Postma. She already made a deep impression with her previous CDs, which in turn earned her several international jazz prizes. Just like on For The Rhythm, the drum stool is occupied by drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, known for her work with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter
… and Santana. That means spicy swinging fireworks again. Add top musicians such as pianists Rob van Bavel, Marc van Roon and Randal Corsen, guitarist Edoardo Righini and bassist Frans van der Hoeven and in a few songs a four-piece wind ensemble and you have a fantastic album. Tineke Postma herself shows with her virtuoso playing that she has a great sound and technique. Especially on soprano sax she sounds very convincing, for example in Short Conversations dedicated to Wayne Shorter. This master will hear it with approval. (HB)more
