Frevo music originated in the Brazilian city of Recife at the end of the nineteenth century and originated in march music. Frevo has a very fast rhythm in which the different instrument groups take turns playing a kind of question-and-answer game. In practice, Frevo boils down to hard-hitting speed jazz in which the members of the wind section raise each other to the limit over super fast Brazilian party rhythms. The interpretation is based on fast-paced bebop, 1940s swing and highly performed samba and batucada rhythms. The live recordings on Passo De Anjo Ao Vivo pass at dizzying speed and above all hard, very fast.
