Saxophonist Tineke Postma has a thing for traveling, you may conclude from the titles of her CDs. Her previous one was called A Journey That Matters and in the title of her debut album First Avenue she already seemed to refer to the jazz capital New York. For The Traveler she herself traveled to the 'Big Apple' in early 2009 to record nine tracks there in the Systems Two Studio in Brooklyn. She was
… accompanied by a great 'all-American' trio, consisting of pianist Geri Allen, bassist Scott Colley and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. The latter could also be heard on Postma's previous two CDs and it is clear that she and Tineke have built up a special bond. Together with Colley and Allen, she gives the saxophonist perfect support. You don't often hear it like this on Dutch jazz CDs. Postma himself again plays very convincingly on alto and soprano saxophone and is strongly reminiscent of the work of Kenny Garrett in both improvisations and compositions. Class! (HB)more
