Phase Five can be regarded as a recycling project for the music of saxophonist Yuri Honing, resulting in vocal pop based on instrumental hardcore jazz. Producer Floris (Klinkert) delved into Honing's extensive discography and used digital scissors to put musical fragments in a different context. Solos were played over the resulting basic beats and grooves, which Floris revived in his characteristic
… way to form a basis for the vocals. These were sung by David Pino, Leine, Janne Schra, Sarah Bettens and Lilian Vieira. Don't expect a dance project, because Phase Five moves in a fairly minimal way, leaving all room for the efforts of the vocalists and Honings sax. Only YURIFLORIS shows approximately how interesting this project could have been. For the rest, the efforts of Floris hardly stand out, leaving a vocal jazz CD that requires a lot of the listener's patience. (AD)more
