The Catalan-French Renaud García-Fons is called the 'Paganini of the double bass'. He has an exceptional technique; García-Fons conjures fascinating sounds from his double bass by means of ironing and plucking. By adding a fifth string, he also increased his improvisation possibilities. The classically trained double bass player and composer has developed a style that is a melting pot of jazz,
… flamenco, Arabic / Eastern and Mediterranean folklore. His album Méditerranées is a musical journey around the Mediterranean: via the southern European countries of Spain, Italy and Greece to Turkey and Egypt and via the Maghreb back to the Strait of Gibraltar. Along with varying line-ups of his combo - including plucked string instruments, flamenco guitar, accordion, Arabic percussion and woodwinds - García-Fons sketches in an atmospheric and original way an imaginary Mediterranean dream world where life is good.
