La Tiempo De La Revolucion means as much as the time of the revolution. A combative concept that should be accompanied by martial music. However, not when it is conducted from the salon socialism of the French trumpet player Eric Truffaz, because then it is rather accompanied by lazy lounge sounds that are very pleasant to the ear, but otherwise do not disturb at all. And that is not necessary
… either, because Truffaz's discography proves that he is a master of playing elongated notes in a minor setting. The rest of his quartet accompanies him with restrained, funky rhythms, creating a brooding whole. The voice of singer Anna Aaron creates a trip-hop atmosphere on three songs. Nice as a change, but the power of the Truffaz Quartet lies more in the languid grooves that all seem to take place in a scorching heat. As an extra, this CD also includes a DVD with the self-explanatory title Live At Montreux Jazz Festival 2011 with special guests Sophie Hunger and Sly Johnson. (AD)more
