The year is 2011. Trumpeter Randy Brecker is putting together a band for a weeklong series of performances at New York's Blue Note Club. While doing this he realizes that all the musicians he approaches have played in The Brecker Brothers Band. This band that he formed with his brother Michael, who died prematurely, specialized in fusions between hard bop, funk and world music of the most powerful
… kind. For example, Brecker came into contact with veterans such as David Sanborn, Mike Stern, Dave Weckl and Will Lee. The replacement for Michael Brecker was found close to home. Randy's wife Ada Rovatti does the honors on tenor saxophone. Though the spotlight this time on Randy's trumpet, the reunion shows that the musicians on this album still come out with the same force after thirty years. The compositions are a lot less surprising and the pointed interplay with Michael should be missed, but that does not mean that The Brecker Brothers Band Reunion is a treat for fans of jazz funk. As an extra, you can enjoy the live version of the album recorded at New York's Blue Note Club. (AD)more
