Endless snow plains, frozen fjords and tranquil pine forests evoke the Norwegian tuba player and bass trumpet player Daniel Herskedal with his Call For Winter. An almost archaic atmosphere in which his bass trumpet sometimes sounds like the echo of an ancient blaring horn across the landscape. For his seventh album, Herskedal retreated to remote Norwegian nature for two weeks and, inspired by his
… surroundings, recorded twelve pieces with his wind instruments and sparse electronics. Silent music in which his self-chosen loneliness can be heard. His background in jazz is reflected in the free, almost abstractly complaining notes against the heavy drones of the tuba. But there is also neo-classical sound in the minimal and solemn atmosphere of this wonderful album. (MR)more
