Guitarist Marcin Wadolowski has been an established name on the Polish jazz circuit for a number of years. In addition to work with other groups and session work, he released a handful of albums, the contents of which vary from typical standardwork to blues rock. That Wadolowski has taken a different path is shown by the switch he made to the Polish label Dux, which focuses on classical music. On
… Chamber Avenue the classical guitar has taken the place of the electric guitar and the drums have made way for a string quartet and an oboe. The album consists of original compositions and arrangements by his famous fellow countryman Frédéric Chopin. Wadolowski seems to like writing for this line-up. In the arrangements he eagerly exploits the possibilities this composition offers him. In an organic way he alternates improvisation and melodies from the jazz idiom with more classical passages. In this way the album sounds varied and coherent. (JV)more
