Guitarist Anton Goudsmit has never had to complain about a lack of work in the Dutch jazz world. Besides his contributions to the
New Cool Collective and his own band
The Ploctones, his oeuvre includes countless other collaborations and solo projects. It is reasonable to expect that many people with such a high production rate will run out of ideas at some point. Not so with Anton Goudsmit. On Ton
… Petit he spouts his musical fantasies, inspired by blues (Mont Blues), flamenco (El Hugonote/Franje) and prog (The Fridge). He is assisted by like-minded people: bassist Sean Fasciani and drummer Tim Hennekes. These two have no trouble whatsoever keeping up with Goudsmit and even fan the flames of his creativity. The pleasure in playing is infectious and the songs have a nice balance between explorative parts and elaborate themes. Ton Petit is remarkably accessible without sounding less adventurous. (JV)more
