Laura Fygi's story is now known. After a successful period with the naughty girl group Centerfold, she decided to make more 'serious' music. She made her debut in 1991 with the album Introducing Laura Fygi and since then she has recorded six albums of sultry, romantic soft jazz. The public loved it and she also won several national and international prizes. After the Latin foray The Latin Touch from
… 2000, Fygi is completely back in familiar musical territory on Change (2001). For previous albums she always chose existing songs by composers from home and abroad, while the songs on Change were written especially for her for the first time. She has been able to convert the most elementary things from her private life into music. Suppliers of songs included Julie Forsyth (from Grant & Forsyth), Jan Tekstra, Edwin Schimscheimer, Henk-Jan Smits and Haro Slok. The latter two were also responsible for the production. The musical accompaniment is not really exciting or innovative. However, this is offset by Laura's very personal and emotional presentation. Listen to the prize song I Belong and you will have to agree that Laura Fygi is still one of the best singers in the Netherlands. (MvP)more
