Mathilde Santing has been in the business for twenty years. She evolved from a pop singer to a widely respected, beloved and versatile jazz performer, a reputation that carries her through Dutch theaters almost every year. In the past year, Santing has frequently traveled the Amsterdam - New York route. She spent time in her apartment just outside Manhattan and her home in the heart of Amsterdam.
In both cities, recordings were made for New Amsterdam, on which the singer worked with producer John Tilly and arranger Sebastiaan Koolhoven. The twelve songs are a mixture of jazz and pop and strongly remind me of the repertoire of Frank Sinatra in its heyday, in the early sixties. They are calm compositions, in which Santing's beautiful robust voice is accompanied by piano, violin and acoustic guitar. I think one of the most beautiful songs is the romantic The Deepest Sea and the single In The Meantime. (BP)more
