Country is a genre that is held together by clichés. Artists who, after decades of pedal steel guitars, alcohol addictions and sobs in the voice, manage to add something to the music style are very striking. Allisson Moorer from Nashville is one of them. She is the younger sister of Shelby Lynne and was the wife of Steve Earle for a while, which makes the country connoisseur immediately prickly.
Moorer is cut from the same unique cloth; beautiful voice, candid lyrics and a lot of taste when it comes to production. No bland or smooth country, but passionate country rock. Her ninth album Down To Believing is about her divorce from Earle and the care for their autistic son John Henry. A dividing plate is a milked-out cliché and therefore the test for Moorer to show that she can also take this bump. With beautiful songs such as Thunderstorm / Hurricane, in which the most intense emotions are passed in just two minutes, the singer shows that in 2015 she is at the top of her profession. Fans of The Common Linnets - a country leader in the Netherlands - should not miss this record. (JE)more
