Little Big Town was founded by friends Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman, who knew each other from a college in Alabama. With backup from Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook, they form a quartet in which the four vocalists share lead roles and often even take on them together. The harmonies give the foursome's country pop a full and warm sound. Mr. Sun sounds lighthearted and upbeat, with whistled
… melodies (Hell Yeah Yeah) and lyrics in which summer, partying and enjoying a glass (or two) are the main topics. They also testify to their admiration for "the common man." Clichés are not avoided: "I'm a rich man man / Without a lick of money (...) Got love and a family (...) A Sunday go to church man". Despite these platitudes, each song is perfectly singable along, which speaks especially for the melodic writing talents of this group. (JV)more
