Alex Cortiz is the name of the lounge project of the Dutch dance producer Aad De Mooy. Under the stage name D-Shake he scored a worldwide hit in 1990 with Yaah, which in retrospect is seen as the beginning of the gabber house. De Mooy's subsequent projects were less successful and that is why he is probably more of a trend follower than a trendsetter nowadays. He made a Daft Punk-like album with
… Flygang in 1997 and since 1999 he has been involved in lounge. Make Believe is the follow up to Moodfood released in 2000 and the third Alex Cortiz album in total. The album contains fifteen instrumental songs consisting of languid, jazzy beats and warm, atmospheric keyboard parts. Some (voice) samples provide the necessary variety. Nevertheless, Make Believe does not reach the level of Moodfood, not to mention the international toppers like St. Germain or Gare Du Nord. (MvP)more
