After a silence of eight years, in which no new work by her appeared, Sade came back strongly in 2000 with the album Lovers Rock. A typical Sade album, although there was a slight shift in emphasis from the quasi-jazz of her debut Diamond Life, to a more guitar-oriented sound. Her fans did not seem to have forgotten her, the album achieved good sales figures in the United States, followed by an
… extremely successful tour. Lovers Live is the registration of this tour. Many of her old hits include Smooth Operator and Sweetest Taboo, as well as her latest hit By Your Side. Note for note, the songs are reenacted from the record versions, sounds to the delight of the audience. However, you may wonder what the added value is of these live versions, especially when you notice that the vocals of Sade are too often on the false side. To Sade's music, you imagine a chic nightclub, instead of a hall with thousands of screaming fans. Lovers Live is a nice souvenir for the visitors of her concerts, but that's it. (MS)more
