Unlike many other girl groups and boy bands, the British Sugababes have not been brought together by auditions or managers. They met in high school and became friends through their shared love of music, singing and dancing. Their promising debut One Touch (2001) contained two strong singles with Run For Cover and (especially) Overload. In the time between that first CD and the successor Angels With
… Dirty Faces, there has been a change in the line-up. Blonde singer Siobhan Donaghy has left and has been replaced by Heidi Range, who was part of Atomic Kitten for a short time (during the period that Atomic Kitten did not have a record deal yet). Sugababes' songs are generally slightly better and spicier than those of your average hit parade act. It is a clever mix of hip styles such as R&B, hip hop, 2-step, house and pop. Also at Angels With Dirty Faces the ladies are doing well again. The album starts very well with the singles Round And Round and Freak Like Me. The latter song is a genius crossover between Freak Like Me (Adina Howard) and Are Friends Electric (Gary Numan's Tubeway Army). Other highlights are the funky Switch, the exciting Virgin Sexy and Shape, which is based on the Sting song Shape Of My Heart and in which the voice of the same Sting is sampled.
