The comedians Thomas Acda and Paul de Munnik met each other in the early 1990s at the Amsterdam Kleinkunstacademie. When it turned out that the audience especially appreciated the songs from their first program, they were re-recorded with a backing band. When in the summer of 1998 the song Niet Of Nooit Geweest was released as a single as a precursor to the second album, the breakthrough was a fact.
The song was number one in all charts for weeks and both the debut album and its successor Naar Huis were high in the album charts. These successes were followed by the disappointing albums In Stock, Hier zijn and Live Met Het Metropole Orkest. With their fourth studio album Groeten Uit Maaiveld, however, they take a convincing revenge. They have now finally been transformed from a cabaret duo into a pop group. Regular band members Diederik van Vleuten and Kasper van Kooten have left, while guitarist / producer JB Meyers (ex-Supersub) has been added. The result of these changes is a CD that is a step forward in terms of both production and musicality, while the strong points (the harmony vocals and the melancholic lyrics) have remained. Greetings Uit Maaiveld is the best CD that Acda and de Munnik have made so far. (MvP)more
