In many ways, Beggars Banquet (1968) was a new beginning for The Rolling Stones. After the failed psychedelic outing , the band returned to its roots, the (rhythm &) blues and rock 'n roll from the early years. But because of the (life) experience of the musicians, the group now also managed to play these styles with authority, where many of the early records often sounded a bit forced. For
… the first time, the band worked with producer Jimmy Miller, who would produce almost all of The Stones' classic albums with them. Beggars Banquet was the end of the chapter, after this record he would be kicked out of the band due to unreliability. The exciting opener Sympathy For The Devil, with its samba percussion and jungle sounds, at first puts the listener on the wrong track. The rest of Beggars Banquet mainly offers basic rock 'n roll, mostly in acoustic tone, where the strength lies in the strong songs and the magical interplay of the band members. It would be the start of an unprecedented series of strong albums, which collectively became the blueprint for almost all rock bands that followed.
