The English duo Autechre has been making IDM electro or the electronic side of intelligent dance music for many years. This comes down to not obvious, computer controlled music in the style of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. For some this is a brilliant, avant-garde musical expression, for others it sounds a bit far-fetched. The first albums Incunabula and Amber were still relatively accessible, but
… after that the duo crawled deeper into the machines, in a way that can be called mathematical rather than musical. This culminated on their CD Confield (2001). With the successor Draft 7.30, Autechre has come a little closer to planet Earth, but that also says everything. Their music can best be described as stuttering and bouncing beats with crunchy fillings. That sounds vague and it is but the true enthusiast will not be able to get enough of this Autechre album either. (AD)more
